Therapeutic factors
The Zatoka resort is located 60 km southwest of Odessa, on a picturesque sand spit located between the Black Sea, the Dniester estuary and salt lakes. This sand strip, stretching for two dozen kilometers, has always been considered an elite resting place: spaciousness, warm sea, bright sun, microclimate of the estuary, which, apparently, has absorbed all the smells of the southern steppe. Throughout the braid there are wonderful beaches more than 100 meters wide with pure fine sand.
Favorable geographical position, remoteness from industrial centers and complete absence of industrial enterprises allowed this region to become one of the most ecologically clean places on the Black Sea coast.
Medical factors provide a unique mixture of dry warm steppe air and moist marine, filled with ions of iodine and other trace elements that are formed during the constant tide of sea waves. This curative mixture gives a quick and stable result in the treatment of respiratory diseases, including pulmonary diseases, cardiovascular diseases, diseases of the nervous system.
The favorable climate of Zatoka gives exceptionally good results in improving children, elderly people.
Wellness properties of sea air Zatoka was in demand at all times.
As early as 1913, by decree of the Russian Emperor, a sanatorium was set up here to treat children with tuberculosis.
It was here that, as a teenager, the future Ukrainian poet E. Kosach - Lesya Ukrainka came to be treated for tuberculosis.
After the transition of Bessarabia to Romania, the Romanians built a new tuberculosis sanatorium during 1933-1934. The opening of the sanatorium was visited by the King of Romania himself - King Carol II and his wife Elena.
During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. the sanatorium was destroyed.
The new government restored the activities of the tuberculosis sanatorium by the end of the 1940s. The sanatorium is still working.
Now the sanatorium is called "Children's specialized sanatorium" Zatoka. "In this sanatorium, children from all corners of Ukraine are treated year-round.

В Затоке очень благоприятный климат.
Это один из теплых районов Причерноморья. Курортный сезон продолжается с середины мая до середины сентября. Средняя дневная температура воздуха летом 25-30 градусов, а воды до 20-23 градуса. Безморозный период длится более 200 дней.
При обилии солнечных дней и высоких летних температурах в Затоке очень высокая испаряемость. Дневная летняя жара переносится легко благодаря морским бризам. Зима мягкая, средняя температура января –3 градуса.
Транспорт
Вдоль всего населённого пункта проходит республиканское шоссе Одесса — Рени, а также железнодорожная ветка Одесса — Березино — Измаил.
Через Затоку курсирует пассажирский поезд сообщением Одесса — Измаил — Березино и пригородные поезда Одесса — Белгород-Днестровкий (5 пар летом и 2 пары зимой). Автомобильный и железнодорожный транспорт является основным транспортом в поселке.
Инфраструктура курорта
Затока - поселок городского типа со всеми объектами жизнеобеспечения: медицинский центр, поселковый совет, школа, детский сад, центр культуры и отдыха, аптеки, банки, библиотека, почтовые отделения. На курорте функционирует более двухсот отелей и баз отдыха. Все они работают в основном летом.
